Assumption Parish, LA – Kerry Howard Killed, One Airlifted in Two-Car Accident on LA-308
Assumption Parish, LA (July 31, 2021) – On Friday, July 30th, at about 11:00 a.m., troopers with the Louisiana State Police were notified of a fatal two-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 308 approximately two miles south of Louisiana Highway 943 in Assumption Parish.
The deceased has since been identified as 32-year-old Kerry Howard, a resident of Thibodaux.
Troopers learned that Howard was driving northbound on State highway 308 in a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the Caprice veered off the righthand side of the highway at a sharp bend in the road. Howard overcorrected in response and swerved over the centerline, directly into the path of a southbound 2017 Nissan Maxima. In spite of the Nissan driver’s attempts to avoid a collision, he was hit head-on by the Chevrolet.
Howard endured fatal injuries during the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Nissan sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by Acadian Air Med to a hospital in the Baton Rouge area.
A toxicology sample was obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis.
This accident remains under investigation.
