Baton Rouge, LA – Timothy Achee Killed in Nine-Car Pile-Up in West Baton Rouge Parish

April 25, 2024

Baton Rouge, LA (September 11, 2021) – A man from Louisiana heading home after having evacuated ahead of Hurricane Ida died in a fiery nine-car collision that shut down part of Interstate 10 on Thursday, September 9th.

29-year-old Timothy Achee, a resident of Metairie, was on his way home from Houston, where he and his family weathered Hurricane Ida.

While riding in a vehicle with his brother and father, a tractor-trailer failed to stop and plowed into a row of gridlocked traffic on the interstate. This caused a fatal nine-car accident that resulted in Achee’s car catching fire.

Achee’s brother and father survived the crash and sustained only non-critical injuries. The family’s dog was also killed during the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has since been identified as Jack Duff III, a resident of Mobile, Alabama, was placed under arrest and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless operation. He is also facing six counts of vehicular injury.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Timothy Achee, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Wrongful Deaths in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, LA - Timothy Achee Killed in Nine-Car Pile-Up in West Baton Rouge Parish

Wrongful death is defined as a death that occurs due to the fault of another. Generally, this involves situations in which one person is killed because another person acted negligently, either accidentally or deliberately. Car accidents, medical malpractice, and even acts of criminal violence can all be legitimate sources of wrongful death suits.

Wrongful death claims can also be brought against manufacturers, businesses, corporations, and other entities accountable for fatalities caused by wrongful practices, negligence, or in cases for which they are directly liable.

Wrongful death claims give survivors a sense of recourse when an act of negligence causes the death of someone they love. Louisiana law permits specific survivors to bring a wrongful death claim on behalf of the deceased.
