Pedestrian Crashes in Baton Rouge Louisiana

Baton Rouge, LA - Wheelchair-Bound Pedestrian Struck on Florida BlvdJust like everyone else, pedestrians have a right to the road. Unfortunately, many drivers fail to take the necessary measures to keep an eye out for pedestrians. Pedestrian fatalities have been rising continually year after year, despite a reduction in passenger car fatality rates across the country.

Those traveling on foot are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a collision, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Pedestrians have less protection in the event of a collision, rendering them more vulnerable to fatalities. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic collision every 88 minutes on average, for a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths in the United States.

Pedestrians and cyclists must share the road with other cars, yet many of these road users receive significant injuries as a result of traffic accidents. All drivers have a responsibility to share the road safely with pedestrians and give the right of way when needed, but sadly, too many drivers ignore key areas like crosswalks. As a result, major pedestrian collisions are a common occurrence, and these collisions are more likely to result in life-altering injuries. In many situations, drivers disregard or refuse to observe the right of way, resulting in devastating injuries.
