Pedestrian Accidents in Louisiana
Every day, tens of thousands of people across our state opt to walk instead of using motor vehicles for transportation. A lot of people choose this method of transportation due to its cost, health benefits, and ease. Although we like to think people are safer when traveling outside of vehicles, this is far from true. Between 2003 and 2012, more than 1,028 pedestrians lost their lives in auto accidents in our state. Tens of thousands more are left with injuries that require medical treatment.
Given the fact that pedestrians are outside of their vehicles at the time of their accidents, they are at an increased risk of suffering injuries that leave them with permanently disabling conditions. These and other serious injuries require both immediate care and long-term treatment, like therapy and rehabilitation. Sometimes, treatment can last for several years or indefinitely, depending on the severity of the injuries. When pedestrians are injured in accidents due to the negligence of others, they may have legal options available to them. By consulting with a personal injury attorney in Louisiana, victims can explore the legal options that are available to help them move forward and recover.
