Chatham, LA – LSP Investigating the Death of Jimmy Howell in Front St Accident
Chatham, LA (August 17, 2021) – On Monday, August 16, at about 5:00 p.m., state police opened an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle collision on Front Street in the area of Salem Road.
The Jackson Parish coroner has identified the deceased as 52-year-old Jimmy Howell.
Initial lines of inquiry showed that a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by 20-year-old Jose Reynoza, a resident of Eros, was heading southbound on Front Street at the same time that Howell was driving northbound in a 2012 Toyota Corolla along the same road. For reasons that have not yet been determined, the Mitsubishi swerved over the centerline and collided with the Corolla.
Reynoza was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.
Howell died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
Both drivers were properly restrained.
The other two occupants of the Corolla also sustained moderate injuries and were transported for emergency medical treatment.
Although driver impairment is not believed to be a factor in this accident, standard toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis in accordance with state law.
This accident is under investigation.
