East Baton Rouge Parish, LA – Yolanda Schuchard Dies in Crash on US-61
East Baton Rouge Parish, LA (August 06, 2021) – On the morning of Friday, August 6th, at about 11:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troopers were called to investigate the scene of a fatal crash on US-61 at Alco Avenue in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The deceased has since been identified as 66-year-old Yolanda Schuchard, a resident of Baton Rouge.
An investigation determined that the accident took place as Schuchard was driving westbound along Alco Avenue in a 2013 Toyota Camry while a 2017 Chevrolet 2500 pick-up truck was driving northbound on US-61. For reasons that have not yet been determined, Schuchard ended up in the northbound lanes of US-61 in front of the Chevrolet 2500. This resulted in the Chevrolet 2500 crashing into the driver’s side of the Toyota Camry.
Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Schuchard, however, sustained fatal injuries during the impact and died on the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet 2500 sustained reportedly non-critical injuries and was transported by paramedics to a local medical facility for treatment.
As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mrs. Yolanda Schuchard, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Injury Collisions in East Baton Rouge Parish
Any time a victim is hurt in a motor vehicle accident due to the negligence of another, it is crucial that they seek reliable legal counsel from an experienced car crash attorney in Louisiana right away. Victims usually discover they have a wide variety of legal alternatives available to them as they look for financial recovery.
It is very unnerving to learn that the largest portion of traffic accidents take place just a few miles from home. Drivers who are just popping out to go to the corner market, the supermarket, take their dog for a walk in a local park, or stop by to visit with a friend or relative for the evening are not any safer than a driver who is planning to drive across the state or across the country.

Following most collisions, crash victims will be left to deal with serious injuries. Common accident-related injuries include broken and fractured bones, internal organ damage, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. This list is far from complete and lots of other serious injuries could force victims to undergo long and expensive hospitalizations, medical treatments, and even long-term care.
It is crucial that drivers never become complacent or let their guard down just because they are driving on a familiar street they have traveled many times before, running a daily errand to the gas station or the post office. Lowered awareness increases the likelihood of a car accident taking place, even when your destination is just around the corner.
