Pedestrian Accidents in Lafayette
Louisiana residents appreciate warm weather all year long. This weather comes with year-round tourists and numerous outdoor activities. Due to this, pedestrians are a familiar sight alongside the state’s roadways.
With more pedestrians comes a higher rate of pedestrian accidents. Nationwide, roughly 129,000 pedestrians are hit by vehicles each year. A report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 5,300 pedestrians died in car accidents in 2015.
Many factors can contribute to the injury of Louisiana pedestrians. Drivers who are intoxicated dramatically raise the odds of a pedestrian-involved accident. Furthermore, even a moderate amount of sleep deprivation can impair a person’s reaction time. In fact, studies have indicated that a lack of sleep produces a level of driver impairment that is comparable to drunk driving. The same is also true of texting while driving.
