Marrero, LA (September 11, 2021) – On Friday, September 10th, Louisiana State Police were called to the scene of a car accident that left one man dead and another injured in Marrero.

The investigation determined that 53-year-old Chris Dufrene, Jr., a resident of Lafitte, was traveling southbound on Lafitte Parkway in a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu when he rear-ended a 2017 Kia Forte.

According to police, after the initial impact, the Malibu swerved left, crashed into a tree in the median, became partly airborne, and spun before coming to an uncontrolled stop in the median.

Police say Dufrene sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Kia sustained non-critical injuries. They were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Chris Dufrene Jr., at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Rear-End Accidents in Marrero

Marrero, LA - Chris Dufrene Jr. Dies, One Injured in Car Accident on Lafitte Pkwy

When one vehicle tailgates another, any slowing or braking done by the leading car can easily cause the second to crash into its rear-end. The force of the resulting impact could be enough to thrust the first car into the rear-end of the vehicle in front of it, causing serious damage to multiple victims and multiple vehicles.

Simultaneous rear-end collisions, also called chain-reaction accidents, are a style of accident that is common in Louisiana. They are most often caused by tailgating, or one vehicle following too closely to another. Driving laws in Louisiana require drivers to keep a reasonable distance between themselves and other vehicles at all times.
