Monroe, LA – Jathamas White Killed in Car Crash on LA-594 near Powell Ave

Monroe, LA (May 16, 2021) – A multi-vehicle collision reported in the Monroe area claimed the life of one young man. Just after 6:30 p.m., on May 14, emergency crews were notified that a collision took place on Louisiana State Highway 594, in front of the Target store.

Reports from authorities show that 25-year-old Jalayla Jackson was traveling east on Louisiana State highway 594 in a 2004 Lincoln Navigator. Jackson passed the red light at Powell Avenue and crashed into a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, which was driven by 19-year-old Jathamas White.

The impact of the crash caused the Navigator to continue forward and crash into a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Kia Telluride.

White was airlifted from the scene of the accident to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two other people in White’s vehicle were transported to area hospitals for further care. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
