Deadly Pedestrian Crashes in New Orleans Louisiana

New Orleans, LA - Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Morrison Rd & Read BlvdAccording to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a traffic accident. In case of a crash, pedestrians have less protection, making them more prone to sustaining life-threatening injuries. Just like anyone else, pedestrians have a right to use the road. Despite this fact, many drivers fail to take the essential precautions to avoid catastrophic pedestrian accidents.

Pedestrian fatalities have been steadily increasing year after year, despite nationwide reductions in passenger automobile fatality rates. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic incident every 88 minutes on average in the United States, for a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths.

Major pedestrian accidents are prevalent, and they are more likely to result in life-altering injuries. Drivers frequently disrespect or refuse to observe the right of way, resulting in serious injuries. Pedestrians and cyclists must share the road with other vehicles, yet many of them suffer serious injuries as a consequence of traffic collisions. All vehicles have a responsibility to share the road safely with walkers and to yield the right of way when necessary, but too many drivers fail to do so in critical locations such as crosswalks.
