Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crashes in Port Allen

While any vehicle collision has the potential to be catastrophic, accidents involving oversized commercial trucks are even more so. Commercial trucks, such as tractor-trailers, garbage trucks, tanker trucks, and dump trucks typically weigh more than 80,000 pounds, the equivalent of 40 tons, which is enough to make them very dangerous.

In addition to their weight, these huge trucks are hard to steer and some of them are hauling hazardous materials. For these reasons, truck operators and their parent companies and crew have to take precautionary measures. If the truck operator or the trucking company is even the tiniest bit careless or negligent, it could cause a serious or even fatal accident.

When people are gravely injured in any kind of accident that stemmed from the reckless, negligent, or malicious act of another, their immediate family members may be entitled to file a claim of wrongful death with a Port Allen wrongful death attorney right away.

Between 1992 and 2002, the number of tractor-trailers involved in deadly collisions has seen a 10% increase caused mainly by preventable circumstances such as driver fatigue, unsafe truck operation, oversized and unbalanced payloads, and faulty equipment.

Accidents involving oversized commercial trucks are also subject to the same causative factors as other vehicles, including driver fatigue, drunk driving, driver error, equipment malfunction, and insufficient maintenance.
