Rayne, LA – Two DOT Subcontractors Struck by SUV on Hwy 90 Near Gina St

Rayne, LA (September 16, 2021) – Two workers employed as subcontractors by the Louisiana Highway Department of Transportation Department were badly injured in a crash that took place on Friday, September 10th, on Highway 90 near the Gina Street intersection.

Officers from the Rayne Police Department were dispatched to the scene after reports of an accident between an SUV and a truck pulling a loaded trailer.

According to sources, the subcontractors had finished a road project that consisted of removing rumble strips from the roadway and were awaiting another work crew also operating in the area.

The two workers were standing on the shoulder of Highway 90 near the truck and loaded trailer when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, a large SUV driven by Rusty James Hollier, a resident of Rayne, crashed into the truck and trailer and then struck both men.

Both workers were transported to local hospitals, one in stable condition and one with critical injuries.

No charges will be filed until officers receive the toxicology results from the driver of the SUV.
