Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in St. Gabriel
Louisiana residents enjoy warm weather all year long. This weather comes with year-round tourists and numerous outdoor ventures. Due to this, pedestrians are a common sight alongside the state’s roadways.
With heavier foot traffic comes a higher rate of pedestrian accidents. Nationwide, roughly 129,000 pedestrians are hit by vehicles each year. A report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 5,300 pedestrians died in car accidents in 2015.
Many factors can contribute to pedestrian deaths in Louisiana. Drivers who are under the influence considerably increase the likelihood of a pedestrian-involved accident. Furthermore, a lack of sleep can greatly impair a motorist’s reaction time. In fact, studies have proven that sleep deprivation produces a level of driver impairment that is comparable to drunk driving. The same is also true of texting while driving.
