St. Martin Parish, LA – Deandre L. James Killed in Vehicle Wreck on Main Hwy

March 29, 2024

St. Martin Parish, LA (August 06, 2021) – On Saturday, July 31, at about 5:30 p.m., troopers from the Louisiana State Police were notified of a single-car accident on Main Highway in the area of Daspit Road in St. Martin Parish.

The accident eventually caused the death of 23-year-old Deandre L. James, a resident of St. Martinville.

Initial investigations revealed that 23-year-old Stephen T. Boutte was driving a 2011 Buick Lucerne northbound on Main Highway when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, his vehicle left the paved portion of the roadway and entered a ditch. The Buick then struck an embankment and a tree, before coming to its final rest.

Boutte was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in serious condition.

Boutte’s passenger, James, was taken to a local medical facility in critical condition. Earlier this morning, investigators were notified that James had succumbed to his injuries during the night.

Driver impairment is not known at this time, but a toxicology sample was obtained from Boutte for laboratory analysis.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Deandre L. James, at this time.
