Tangipahoa Parish, LA – Brandon Verneuil Dies in Motorcycle Accident on LA-40

April 20, 2024

Tangipahoa Parish, LA (July 31, 2021) – On Friday, July 30th, at about 3:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troopers were called to investigate a deadly collision on State Highway 40 in the area of State Highway 442 in Tangipahoa Parish.

The fatal victim has since been identified as 36-year-old Brandon Verneuil, a resident of Ponchatoula.

Investigators learned that Verneuil was driving westbound on State Highway 40 on a 2012 Harley-Davidson just as a 2019 Hino commercial vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Bismal Perez Sanchez of Hialeah, Florida. was heading in the opposite direction.

For reasons that have not yet been determined, Sanchez neglected to yield the right-of-way and attempted to make a lefthand turn across the westbound lane, directly into the path of Verneuil’s Harley-Davidson, causing the two vehicles to collide with one another.

Even though Verneuil was wearing a DOT-approved motorcycle helmet, he received fatal injuries during the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Sanchez was properly restrained and was unharmed during the incident.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a blood sample was obtained from Verneuil for routine laboratory analysis.

A chemical breath test was administered to Sanchez and revealed no signs of impairment.

This crash remains under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Brandon Verneuil, at this time.

According to Louisiana law, the family of passengers who are killed during bus, truck, motorcycle, and car accidents could be entitled to financial recovery. It is important that surviving family members hire an attorney who is familiar with the most efficient ways to successfully pursue all appropriate and available sources of economic compensation.

Life-ending accidents are a harsh reality encountered by bikers far more often than the driver or passengers of any other motor vehicle. Although only 4% of registered vehicles in the state of Louisiana are motorcycles, the state’s Office of Motor Vehicles has noted that almost 300 fatal Louisiana vehicle accidents happened in 2017, more than 40 of which were motorcyclists.
