Waggaman, LA – 10-Year-Old Killed in Crash Near Modern Farms Rd

Waggaman, LA (July 04, 2021) – The Louisiana State Police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that caused the death of a 10-year-old child on Saturday, July 3rd in Jefferson Parish.

The crash occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on State Highway 18 in the area of Modern Farms Road in Waggaman. 

Police reports state that the driver of the car, Randolph Martin Jr., was speeding when he failed to negotiate a sharp bend in the roadway, causing the vehicle to strike a drainage ditch before going airborne and overturning several times.

The child was transported to a medical facility where he passed away from his injuries. Martin was seriously injured during the crash and also taken to a hospital.

Two other children were in the car when the accident happened. They were both properly restrained and received only minor injuries.

The Louisiana State Police have indicated that toxicology samples were taken as driver impairment is thought to be a factor.
