New Orleans, LA (July 21, 2021) – A male pedestrian was injured after being involved in a hit-and-run in the New Orleans area on Friday, July 9.
The crash was reported near the crossing of Morrison Road and Read Boulevard that afternoon. At around 1:38 p.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk near the intersection when they were hit by a black Nissan Sentra. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the incident.
The driver stopped briefly before fleeing the scene. The injured pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with a seriously injured leg. The driver was described as a 20 or 30-something-year-old male with blonde hair and a beard. Local authorities are currently seeking information related to the crash.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officers. As the inquiry develops, additional details will be released to the public.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Pedestrian fatalities have been steadily increasing year after year, despite nationwide reductions in passenger automobile fatality rates. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic incident every 88 minutes on average in the United States, for a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths.
Major pedestrian accidents are prevalent, and they are more likely to result in life-altering injuries. Drivers frequently disrespect or refuse to observe the right of way, resulting in serious injuries. Pedestrians and cyclists must share the road with other vehicles, yet many of them suffer serious injuries as a consequence of traffic collisions. All vehicles have a responsibility to share the road safely with walkers and to yield the right of way when necessary, but too many drivers fail to do so in critical locations such as crosswalks.
