May 8, 2024

Bossier Parish, LA (September 13, 2021) – A person, although injured, is fortunate to be alive after their pick-up truck was struck by a train on Friday, September 10th.

The accident took place at about 7:00 a.m., at the railway crossing located at the Pecan Valley Estates Mobile Home Park near Barksdale Boulevard. The collision was initiated inside Bossier City limits but the pick-up truck was actually pushed by the train for a quarter-mile until it was outside of the city limits.

Bossier City Police, Bossier Sheriff’s Deputies, and Louisiana State Police were all on the scene.

The driver of the truck sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening and was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport for treatment.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Railroad Accidents in Bossier Parish

Bossier Parish, LA - One Injured When Train Crashes into Truck Near Barksdale Blvd

Train crossing accidents can originate from multiple possible causes, like faulty crossing signals with no gates, no lights, and overgrown bushes, which all make an oncoming train hard to see. It is important to document the scene of the crash before the railroad company has an opportunity to clear the scene. It is up to them to ensure that the warning devices are clearly visible and in good working order.

Incidents that happen at railroad crossings have the highest total, somewhere between 300 and 400, of all annual railroad fatalities. For every single train crossing accident, someone is responsible, including the people tasked with track preservation, crossing signal maintenance, and the upkeep of roadways leading to the tracks.

In rural areas, a train neglecting to sound its horn could result in an accident, particularly at crossings with no gate. A lot of railroad crossings only have crossbucks or lights. Obstructed sightlines make the train or the crossing itself hard to see. In some instances, private crossings are upheld by a property owner instead of the railroad company.
