Grant Parish, LA – Unidentified Driver Killed, One Injured in Crash on US-71

Grant Parish, LA (July 29, 2021) – On Thursday, July 29th, at about 11:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 71, in the area of Louisiana Highway 158. 

The driver killed in the collision has yet to be identified.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by an unidentified person, was heading southbound along U.S. Highway 71 when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, the Jeep crossed over the centerline into oncoming lanes of traffic where it collided head-on with a 2019 Mack garbage truck. After crashing the garbage truck, the Jeep erupted into flames.

The unidentified driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Due to the severity of the crash, seat belt usage is unknown. 

The driver of the garbage truck sustained moderate injuries during the impact and was transported by paramedics to a local medical facility. 

Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.
