Jefferson Davis Parish, LA – Barbara Ann Nance Killed in Truck Collision on I-10 Near LA-99

April 26, 2024

Jefferson Davis Parish, LA (July 12, 2021) – On Monday, July 12, at about 8:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police responded to a four-car accident on Interstate 10 near State Highway 99 in Jefferson Davis Parish.

The victim has since been identified as 66-year-old Barbara Ann Nance, a resident of Pearland, TX.

An investigation showed that a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 67-year-old Joseph Guillory, a resident of Lake Charles, was driving eastbound on I-10 when he encountered traffic due to a rainstorm. Guillory neglected to reduce his speed and crashed into the back of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.

After its initial impact with the Hyundai, the tractor-trailer swerved to the right and hit the back of a 2015 Mazda CX-5 that was stopped on the roadway due to the traffic. The force of the impact pushed the Sonata into an eastbound 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Nance, who was the front-seat passenger in the Mazda, was transported to a Jennings-area hospital with moderate injuries, but she passed away shortly after arrival.

The driver and the other occupants of the Mazda all sustained moderate injuries, as did Guillory and the other two drivers.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mrs. Barbara Ann Nance, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

When one vehicle tailgates another, any slowing or braking done by the leading car can easily cause the second to crash into its rear-end.
