New Orleans, LA – Lachante Coleman Dies in Auto-Pedestrian Crash in Lafourche Parish
New Orleans, LA (August 23, 2021) – Officers with the Louisiana State Police Department reported a fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Sunday evening, August 22, and say it claimed the life of a pregnant Raceland woman who was struck by a car in Lafourche Parish.
The woman, identified as 25-year-old Lachante Coleman, suffered severe injuries as a result of the wreck. She was rushed to the hospital by EMS units but later died at University Medical Center in New Orleans. Coleman was walking with another pedestrian at the time of the accident, though they were not hit. Coleman was struck by a 2003 Acura TL traveling eastbound on the street toward Coleman and her companion.
According to an initial accident report released by the LSP, the driver of the car attempted to swerve and avoid the pedestrians but was unable to steer clear of Coleman.
A toxicology test was performed on both Coleman and the driver, though the results have not been released. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.
