Luling, LA – Hit-and-Run Driver on Paul Fredrick St Leaves Injured Child in Roadway
Luling, LA (July 05, 2021) – Deputies from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office are working to locate a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run accident that took place on Sunday, July 4th.
At about 9:45 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a serious hit-and-run in the 600 block of Paul Fredrick Street in Luling.
As they conducted an investigation, deputies discovered that the driver of a dark-colored SUV of unknown make and model was speeding down Paul Fredrick Street when they struck a 4-year-old child near the roadway.
The driver began to pull over but, in an apparent change of heart, fled the scene just moments later, not stopping to render aid to the child or notify authorities.
The 4-year-old was severely injured and is currently under observation at an area hospital.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Pedestrian Injuries in Luling
Several thousand victims are injured annually in car accidents across the state. While the majority of crash victims are inside vehicles, thousands of them are on foot. Unlike vehicle occupants, pedestrians are especially vulnerable to sustaining serious injuries in accidents. Unlike a car or truck, pedestrians are not afforded the protection of roll cages, airbags, and steel frames.
According to crash data, about 80% of accidents are the direct result of driver negligence. When drivers are distracted, impaired, or engaging in negligent behaviors, the potential for life-altering consequences to those around them is exponential.
Most pedestrian accidents are avoidable but we continue to see the devastating consequences that victims and their families are forced to face. When pedestrians are killed in accidents, due to the negligent or reckless actions of motorists, it is important that their families reach out to a knowledgeable pedestrian accident attorney in Louisiana as soon as possible. In some cases, families are able to file legal claims against at-fault drivers in order to recover full and fair compensation to help alleviate the financial burdens they face moving forward.
